Privacy Policy
DIRTGPS PTY LTD ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have when you use the DirtGPS mobile application ("App") and website ("Site").
1. Information We Collect
Location Data. The App collects your precise GPS location to provide real-time navigation, track recording, and waypoint placement. Location is collected in the foreground and, when track recording or live tracking is active, in the background. By default your location is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. The only exception is the optional Live feature described in Section 2, which transmits your location while you have deliberately started a live session.
Contact Information. We collect your email address only if you contact us directly via the Site. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry.
User-Generated Content. Tracks, waypoints, notes, and folder data you create are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it (e.g., via GPX export).
Terms Acceptance Record. When you accept our Terms of Service in the App, a record of that acceptance (the terms version, the date and time, the App version, and your device model and operating system version) is stored on your device. It is not transmitted to our servers, contains no name, email, or location, and exists solely to document that the Terms were accepted.
2. Live Tracking and Live Streaming (Optional)
DirtGPS includes an optional "Live" feature. Nothing in this section happens unless you deliberately start it. Going live always requires you to press "Go Live" in the App. All live features require an active internet connection on your device.
Live location sharing. While a live session is active, the App transmits your GPS position, speed and heading, together with the racer name or car number and vehicle description you entered and the shape of the track you selected, to our servers so it can be displayed on a live map at dirtgps.com/live. If you choose Public, your live session is listed on the public live map and can be seen by anyone. If you choose Private, your session is visible only to people who have your personal watch link. Live location fixes are retained on our servers for a maximum of 48 hours and then deleted; sessions end automatically shortly after your device stops sending.
Live camera streaming. If you pair a camera, its video (including any audio it captures) is streamed via Cloudflare Stream and shown on your marker on the live map while your session is live, with the same Public/Private visibility as your location. Recordings that exist solely to enable live playback are deleted automatically when your session ends, and any remainder is purged on a schedule. We do not keep or publish your footage after the stream.
Streaming to other platforms. If you configure additional streaming destinations (for example YouTube or Facebook), your video is re-sent to those platforms exactly as configured by you. Content you send to third-party platforms is governed by those platforms' own terms and privacy policies, not ours.
Pit crew messaging. If you use pit crew messaging, messages between you and holders of your pit crew link are relayed through our servers for delivery and are not retained after delivery. Anyone holding your pit crew link can send you messages; you can reset the link at any time, which immediately disables the old one.
Stream overlays. Images you add in the Overlay Editor (such as logos) are uploaded to and stored on our infrastructure so they can be shown over your live video. They remain until you replace or remove them. When overlays are enabled, your camera stream is relayed through our video processing servers (hosted on Fly.io) so the overlays can be combined into the video itself; the video is processed in transit only and is not stored there.
Your watch link. Your watch link contains a random code generated on your device. It identifies your live sessions and does not contain your name or any personal detail unless you have included one in your racer name.
Viewers. Visitors to the live map see only what broadcasting racers have chosen to share. Watching does not require an account; standard website analytics (Section 5) apply. To show racers how many people are watching, the live map stores a random identifier in your browser and counts it while you have a racer's card open. It identifies your browser only, is not linked to you, and is not used for any other purpose.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the navigation and mapping features of the App
- To manage customer relationships and provide support
- To understand general usage patterns and improve the App and Site experience
4. Data Storage and Security
All navigation data (tracks, waypoints, folders) is stored entirely on your device. We do not store your personal navigation history on our servers; the only data our infrastructure handles is the temporary live-session data described in Section 2, which is deleted on the schedules stated there. Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple's App Store. We do not collect or store payment information.
5. Third-Party Services
Mapbox. The App uses Mapbox Maps SDK to render maps. Mapbox may collect telemetry data subject to their own privacy policy. Please review Mapbox's privacy policy at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
Apple. The App uses Apple's CoreLocation, StoreKit, and other Apple system frameworks. Subscription billing is handled entirely by Apple. Apple's data practices are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy at apple.com/privacy.
Supabase. Live tracking sessions and location fixes are processed and temporarily stored using Supabase infrastructure. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.
Cloudflare. Live camera video is ingested and delivered by Cloudflare Stream. Cloudflare's privacy policy is available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Fly.io. When stream overlays are enabled, camera video is processed in transit on servers hosted by Fly.io. Fly.io's privacy policy is available at fly.io/legal/privacy-policy.
Google Analytics. Our website uses Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics such as page views, referral sources, and general visitor demographics. This data helps us improve the Site. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
We do not integrate advertising networks or sell your data to any third parties.
6. Location Permissions
The App requests the following location permissions:
- When In Use: Required for real-time navigation and waypoint placement while the App is open.
- Always (Background Location): Requested to allow track recording and live tracking to continue when the App is in the background.
You can revoke location permissions at any time in your device's Settings. Revoking location access will disable navigation and track recording features.
The App may also request the following permissions, used only for the features described:
- Microphone: Used only when you tap the mic to dictate a pit crew message. Audio is converted to text on your device where supported and is not stored or transmitted as audio by us; only the resulting text message is sent.
- Speech Recognition: Used to convert your dictated speech into a message. Where on-device recognition is unavailable, Apple may process the audio under Apple's privacy terms.
- Notifications: Used for reminders you would expect, such as a heads-up before a free trial ends.
7. Children's Privacy
DirtGPS is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete data we hold about you. To exercise these rights or make a data-related request, contact us at the address below.
Subscription Management. Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. To cancel or modify your subscription, go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device.
9. Changes to This Policy
Merchandise orders
When you buy merchandise from our online shop we collect your name, email address and delivery address so we can process and send your order.
Payment is processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own secure checkout and are never received, seen or stored by DirtGPS. We receive only confirmation that payment succeeded, together with the details you gave us for delivery.
Your delivery address is provided to Australia Post so your order can be delivered, and your postcode is sent to Australia Post to calculate postage. Order records are retained for five years to meet Australian tax and business record-keeping obligations.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
